The Business Challenge

Axians (formerly Imtech) approached Datanet in May 2014 as they were looking to both modernise and consolidate their Proof of Concept Laboratory facilities, at that time located in Chessington. Axians primarily required a quantity of racks to facilitate their proof of concept work for their large Telecoms and ISP customers. This work typically requires testing of sophisticated network and routing equipment over several months to ensure it is fit for purpose and the design meets the client’s requirements. This in turn means that the equipment will be racked and hosted in the data centre for the test period and thereafter boxed up in the original packaging and shipped around the world. So not only did Axians require secure racks and secure hosting facilities but also secure long-term storage for packaging along with meeting rooms, workspace and welfare facilities for their engineers.

Datanet’s Solution

Datanet provided a quantity of contiguous racks, all capable of 8kW, 32A or DC power, with substantial bandwidth and a private circuit to the head office to bring the solution on net for Axians. Along with the racks, Datanet also provided meeting rooms, workshop space, canteen facilities and importantly, to facilitate the lab work, onsite caged storage.

Datanet’s provision for Axians: Datanet now provide Axians with large 47U racks for Proof of Concept Lab work, each rack with high power AC/DC supplies. We also provide Axians with a private circuit to their head office, facilitate LINX membership and interconnects with major carriers, as well as workshop and meeting rooms at our data centre with secure storage for packaging.
